Hi, I am Fiona, the silly goose who runs this acco Hi, I am Fiona, the silly goose who runs this account.

13 years ago, the first ever stranger stepped in of my lens and since then I have photographed over 1,000 families. This job has allowed me to:
-
Meet babies at one week old and years later watch those same babies hike though sunset mountain tops.
-
Drink 4,000 teas and London fogs whilst driving all over this beautiful state, listening to true crime podcasts and solo hiked 20+ miles before sessions. I have seen bears and deer and foxes and chosen courage over fear so many times this year alone.
-
Create a podcast with 10K+ downloads to help other photographers market their businesses, teach classes on Pinterest, websites and mindset.
-
Open an all-white, dreamy studio where I photograph baby’s first year, high school seniors and headshots.
-
If you are a photographer, here are some ways you can work with me in 2024:
-
•Small group marketing mastermind: plan your year with one-on-one + group support- next one starts Jan 22nd!
-
•Meet me in the studio for the day for a one-on-one marketing planning session
-
•Get free tips and support from the podcast
-
If you are a client, here are the places I am photographing clients this year:
-
•Seattle + Tacoma
•Bainbridge Island + Kitsap County
•Clé Elum, Snoqualmie, Wenatchee + Chelan
•Olympic National Park
•Ruby Beach + Seabrook
•Mount Baker
•Whidbey Island

More to know: my DMs are open + friendly. Need a nudge? Come talk to me ❤️ I am happily married and raising two lovey teenage girlies, and I help run a literal dream Airbnb with my mama on our island. Bonus: will embarrass myself somehow today.

One thing I’m working on is being EXTREMELY care One thing I’m working on is being EXTREMELY careful with my thoughts.

Right now, at this time of year, is when I can look up + look around at other photographers and that can be bad for my silly ole brain. Here are some common stupid thoughts my brain loves for me to ponder:
-
1. You are not creative enough. Oooh this dumb one alll effing time.
-
2. You will never reach your income goal.
-
3. You’re getting too old for this job. 👵
-
4. Someone will come along and steal all my locations, my editing process and probably also just clone my tiny self, stuff me in a hole and show up as me 👀 👹
-
5. You are annoying.
-
6. You’re becoming irrelevant.
-
7. You should give up on this and randomly somehow become some sort of tech worker at Amazon because that would be safer 🤖
-
Anyway, with all that shit going on in my head, here I am on my 30th IG post in a row (just because I told myself I would and whether I’m old, not creative, annoying as eff, really short and going nowhere- I’m gonna do what I said I was going to do).
-
Courage is a choice. Most of your thoughts (and mine) are lies. We are made of magic.

As I’ve shared in stories, the more I’ve shared, the worse it’s become lol, yesterday’s post was seen by .0012% of my organic audience…. It’s a shame that IG can’t just make this app more fun. I feel like we’d all post and engage a ton more if people saw our posts. Especially since I built this audience and they are here to see what I post. Showing it to .0012% of them is a damn shame.
-
I’ll be changing the perimeters of the experiment for December. But I can pretty confidently say that if your main marketing plan for your photography business is posting single, static feed posts (the exact way I built up this account over the years) you need to account for 1-2% of the people who follow you seeing all that lovely work.
-
Don’t worry, there is a better way. It just might take some bravery on your part ❤️

So we can once again arrive,

Of what it means to be alive.
For there is beauty in returning,
Oh how wonderful, how strange,
To see that everything’s different
But know it is only you who changed.”

Starting Jan 22nd, I will be leading a small group of family photographers as we create seasonal marketing plans for the year.

The program will include group calls, work weeks with boxer support and access to the Family Photographer Marketing Course for all the fundamentals.

If you have big dreams for 2024, I hope you join us!
The major direction of the studio is going to be c The major direction of the studio is going to be capturing baby’s first year (along with seniors + headshots). But it’s not going to be a “family” space- that will be outdoors. I’m going to create cute seasonal sets and babies under one can come in and get their 6 month, 9 month and one year moments captured.
-
The studio is an over a year and half old and I feel like I’m just now getting clarity about direction.
-
Patience and consistency is often the missing aspect in the life of the working creative. I know my next task is to stick with and build this without getting side tracked with a whole bunch of other ideas (hard for the creative brain!).
-
It’s ok to try a whole lot in the beginning- in fact it’s crucial. But if you want a trustworthy business, you must pick a recognizable path and then trip and fall along the way until clients can say “she does this and she does it beautifully every time”.

Today is my final outdoor fall session of the year. Thank you trees for hanging onto your leaves and little bit longer this year 🍁 🍂
As I’m planning out my 2024, I have to remember As I’m planning out my 2024, I have to remember what was good + what was hard about this year. So because I’m an over-sharer in general, here’s the breakdown:
-
THE GOOD:
• this year I had more aligned clients than ever (meaning they showed up ready to snuggle and play and not grump and be resistant- translation: dads showed up as willing participants way more often than not)
-
•I loved recording the podcast + the feedback from all of you
-
•this year felt really lucky weather + smoke-wise. So many lovely sunsets.
-
•the studio feels more and more like an oasis.
-
•with job changes and adjustments, this year on the personal side of things was our most stressful ever. But we stayed close and turned in, not away.
-
•my kids, despite nearing full teenage-hood are literally made of magic and I love spending the majority of my time with them.
-
THE BAD
-
•I drove too much again and this year with gas prices, it was harder.
-
•the ferries, how I get too and from many of my favorite locations were a nightmare. Too many hours sitting in ferry parking lots waiting.
-
•one of my favorite locations was inaccessible which was really sad for me.
-
•I was in the studio one time between June and September which bummed me out.
-
•I did far less marketing work with other family photographers than I was hoping for which bummed me out- that’ll change in 2024.
-
•getting older hit me a bit harder as I saw photos of myself with my little wrinkle buddies (but I’ve never been stronger in the gym- 185lb back squat ftw)
-
If you haven’t, take a moment to take stock right now. You can’t lay a better path if you don’t have the data to do it.
You know when you have a vision and in the beginni You know when you have a vision and in the beginning its all magic and fun, then the middle part slog full of logistics and work and you almost quit and then…. Yeah. That’s how I feel about this holiday set up 😍
Fall outdoor sessions are wrapping up! - This year Fall outdoor sessions are wrapping up!
-
This year, I realized Fall dates in July which worked out really well! The only fall dates that you’ll see on the 24th will be a few early fall (pre fall foliage, still warmer weather) mountain dates ❤️🏔️
-
Also, I’m gearing up for a handful of snow mini dates!
I’m a lil late to the game this year but 1,000% I’m a lil late to the game this year but 1,000% obsessed with my holiday set up! Jeff was a huge help + we went full sad beige baby 😍😂🎄
I’m forever grateful for clients who remain flex I’m forever grateful for clients who remain flexible with weather. We don’t always reschedule from a gale force winds and rain to a day like this in November but on this day we sure lucked out!
-
Loved photographing this sweet crew at one of my favorite locations.
-
This leads me back to a theme around my business that has only become more clear: a successful session is a partnership between client and photographer. I can bring my knowledge and experience photographing over 1,000 families, but the client must bring their patience, helpfulness and happiness.
-
In 2024, let’s plan + execute a session as a team 🤝 I’ll bring my silliness and speed, you bring a playful attitude and we will conquer the 🌍
At the end of my sessions, we leave a moment for t At the end of my sessions, we leave a moment for the parents. Often, cold kids are just off to the side. Sometimes excited kids are threatening to run off a cliff. Either way, capturing just one moment of love between the two you is important to me ❤️❤️
