3 Types of Content for Family Photographers to Create!

In the Family Photographer Marketing Society (my monthly membership that takes place on a private IG- now with almost 150 posts and 25 live chats about all things marketing specifically for family photographers) the baseline of our chats is content pillars.
–
If you open this app, wanting sessions on the calendar but not sure what to say, it often feels much easier to toss up a random post + then scrollllllll… we’ve all been there.
–
Instead, I encourage members of the society to focus on marketing only what they want to book in the next 6 weeks to 3 months. When you start marketing specifically, coming up with content is easier. Instead of trying to address the long year ahead + getting everyone and their mom to book you, you are trying to book specific sessions for a specific audience.
–
Who is the audience? Families who trust you. But how do you build trust? Why, I’m glad you asked! That brings us to the foundation of allllll content you create on here or anywhere else: inspirational content.

Inspirational content is simply your beautiful, consistent imagery. When someone who is interested in booking you sees trustworthy, niche images over and over again that lights a small fire inside of them they they too want images like that (inspiration) + builds trust towards your brand.
–
The inspired will still have questions, concerns + worries. Perhaps they don’t know what to wear, if their kiddo will behave, how to get their partner on board, which location to choose, how to showcase the images they receive… that’s where you as an educator + guide can create content to educate your client so they feel confident about the process.

–
Despite now feeling inspired by your beautiful imagery, educated by your expertise they may run into new fear walls.

These are much more emotional: based in worthiness. The potential client in this phase might be worried about they way they look, what others will think of them, if they are WORTH this experience. We know-of course-that everyone of worth images of themselves but here’s where you can identify and emotionally connect to those thoughts + create content that motivates.
–
I hope these pillars give you some marketing ideas!

Email is a marketing tool. It will require a bit of effort at first but it’s well worth it bc it’s a marketing channel you OWN - just like your website.
-
If ole Zuck decided to turn this platform into virtual reality poop show filled with ai chat bots, you have no say.
-
But you DO have a say in what you email to real, local humans in your town.

Hi. I know I’ve been experimenting with a ton of Hi. I know I’ve been experimenting with a ton of different ways to learn with me when I comes to marketing but I’ve been looking for the way that results in the most clear transformation (from underbooked + overlooked to booked + happy).
-
It’s been super fun to watch people go through the course buttttttt I see (yes- I watch your stuff 🤓 👀) very little substantial change and that’s because change is scary AF.
-
Most of you need and want a bit of handholding. Thus the idea of a one-on-one three week marketing mentorship was born.
-
We will have one in-person (come work with me at studio Margo) or zoom followed by a week of Voxer support (walkie talkie app) so you have someone to workout the mindset shifts followed by a final in person or zoom meeting to write out a long-term plan.
-
The goal is get you to a place where you are confidently, regularly taking marketing action that moves in the needle in bookings on the calendar.
-
I’d like to do as many of these as possible before my girls get out of school for summer so they are priced accordingly.

We are at a unique spot seasonally- half way throu We are at a unique spot seasonally- half way through Spring, summer is 6ish weeks away.
-
That means we can do a few things in our marketing:
-
1. Start talking about Summer sessions if you haven’t already
-
2. Take stock of how Spring is going. Have you hit your session goals? If not, what do you need for a better Spring next year?
-
Here’s an example: this year you hoped to do wildflower sessions but you under booked them and now don’t have content for 2024 spring. Go get that content and HOLD on to it for next year.
-
3. Follow your emotions: at what point during this season did you feel excited and full of creative energy? At what point did you feel burned out and resentful? Write it down. You’ll forget 9 months from now if you don’t document it.

If you want to be a better marketer, you should pr If you want to be a better marketer, you should probably NOT rebrand.
-
More often than not, a rebrand is a little wall you’re building to hide behind so you don’t do what you ACTUALLY need to do which is… try and fail a bunch of times until suddenly you’re sailing along a fairly smooth river you’ve slowly built for yourself through action.
-
Why don’t we try things?

Our silly thoughts, of course!

Massive hint: that smooth sailing river of consistent clients? It’s built by your numerous and seemingly never ending fails of epic magnitude.

If you’re stuck- try shit.
If you’re sad- try shit.
If you’re worried, try shit.
If you’re happy and you know it, try shit.

Marketing is the stage for your business. People want to see you, hear from you, learn from you. Stand on the stage and see what they like best and what feels best to you.
-
Far, far too much stays locked in your head and quiet. It feels like your busy with marketing ideas, but how many are TRYING?
-
One of my favorite things that happened last week jn Mini Marketing School was working through different ideas until a student had a brand new way to talk about her business. That’s a step. A step can be followed by another and a another but if you keep your feet cemented in the ground out of fear or judgment or worry or indecision, your beautiful budding business stays stuck too.
-
It’s not fonts or websites or logos or presets or perfect dresses.
-
It’s action.
-
That’s the secret.
